In Where The Line is Drawn (2018), driven by the conceptual idea of bridging the distance between The Bahamas and Ayiti, Meris attempts to empty the
ocean of its water. Hundreds of Haitians die every year in atttempts to cross the perilous journey to America. Mending the geographic fracture that runs through Meris’s ancestry, he uses a series of ceramic milk and water juggs often associated with poverty in developing countries.
Meris was born in Ayiti and migrated to the Bahamas as an infant with his mother; seventy miles separate the two nations, yet they couldn’t be any more geopolitically different. Working across sculpture, video, and performance, Meris floats on.
