To the Rising Sun, 2023,  stainless steel, underarm crutches, zip-ties, 144 " * 144" * 144

The Bahamian National Anthem sings: "Lift up your head, to the rising Sun.." To the Rising Sun (2023) speaks on multiple levels of his feelings as a metaphoric and physical disability.  Meris was born in Ayiti and grew up in the Bahamas. In To the Rising Sun (2023), Meris addresses the idea of utopian societies, ideals, and architectures while confronting the struggles of living in an immunocompromised body.

Meris is interested in Buckminster Fuller’s geodesic theory of "doing more with less" in To the Rising Sun (2023). For Meris and many people of the Global South, "doing more with less" is less about academic theory and architectural innovation, but more broadly about survival.  The world gave us scraps, and we made delicacies. We've always done more with less.

To the Rising Sun (2023) signals both towards a disabled future and one where, even in our collective disability, our work in unison will liberate us.
